comScore Selects Syncsort to Manage Click-Stream Data

Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, May 6, 2009

Syncsort, a global leader in high-performance data integration software, today announced that comScore has selected the DMExpress technology platform to incorporate into its click-stream data processing environment. Syncsort data integration capabilities efficiently replace formerly hand-coded processes and run five times faster on the same hardware.

Reston, VA-based comScore provides a leading digital marketing intelligence platform that helps its customers gain deep insights into consumer behavior that enable the execution of successful marketing strategies. comScore processes over 10.3 billion new master records per week (about 8.5 terabytes of compressed data) and captures about 6.1 million unique domain names per month. The company was looking for a data integration / ETL solution that would be able to transform terabytes of raw click-stream data into useful, granular information so that their analysts could provide clients with the up-to-the-minute, experience-based information they need to design and execute successful marketing strategies and campaigns.

“We saw a 500 percent improvement in data integration throughput after deploying DMExpress technology in our environment,” said Michael Brown, comScore’s EVP of Software Engineering. “DMExpress is able to convert raw click-stream data into strategic information our clients use to make intelligent marketing decisions. However, the real advantage for us is the speed with which this processing is completed. It provides a clear competitive advantage.”

comScore was attracted by the reputation of Syncsort, a veteran provider of high performance software solutions. Syncsort had a data integration / ETL offering that ran quickly and efficiently on all platforms with native source and target connectivity to all major database vendors.

“Hand-coded solutions simply do not have the capability or reliability to effectively address the daunting challenge of processing such large volumes of data,” said Harvey Tessler, Syncsort’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management. “Our success in improving click-stream processing time compared to hand coding proves our commitment to delivering superior products and services that bring important business benefits to customers.”
